Frequently Asked Questions
What are the pros of getting COR™ certified?
COR™ offers direct WCB premium rebates, strong industry and client recognition, and a practical, industry‑specific framework that aligns with real worksite activities. The COR™ standard uses a prescriptive, 14 element-based audit with scoring and pass/fail thresholds. With its checklist‑style requirements, it makes it easier for businesses to understand and implement—particularly for small to mid‑sized companies. Importantly, COR™ focuses on more task-level safety or day‑to‑day safety activities, ensuring that your efforts translate into safer worksites and better outcomes for your team.
Why should my organization choose COR™?
COR™ certification offers strong advantages for organizations operating in Canada, especially those in construction, trades, and energy where clients increasingly require COR™ as a condition for bidding on projects. Certification also opens the door to potential WCB premium rebates, helping reduce overall operating costs. COR™ is also attainable for businesses of all sizes – small, mid-size, or large corporations. Overall, COR™ provides a clear, standardized framework for building an effective health and safety program, strengthening compliance, improving internal processes, and enhancing credibility with customers and industry partners.
How long does it take to get COR™ certified?
Our COR™ certification process typically spans 12 months, which aligns with the timeline recommended by the IHSA. Over this period, we build out your full COR™ program, including Safe Job Practices, Safe Work Procedures, forms and templates, Hazard Assessments, and all required supporting documentation. We prioritize developing your program and forms early so your team can begin implementation right away. Support for internal and external audits is flexible and tailored to the level of assistance you need, with timelines varying based on how involved you’d like us to be.
My company has less than 5 workers and hires subcontractors. Can I still get COR™ certified?
Yes! We support several clients who are under 5 employees and mainly hire subcontractors. In Ontario, the IHSA’s COR™ standard does not set a minimum number of employees to be eligible for certification. Instead, we help design your program considering this information. For example, a small company that primarily hires subcontractors will have a more robust policy and procedure on subcontractors (Element 4: Procurement and Contractor Management). We will work with your company to ensure safe contractor management procedures, including expectations, communication, hazard controls, and oversight.
