Just who is a WSIB Representative?

Just who is a WSIB Representative?

July 2, 2013

Managing workplace injury claims effectively is very important to reduce costs and ensure an early and safe return to work for injured workers. Safety First Consulting Professional Corp. provides WSIB claims management services through our licensed paralegals. Since October 31, 2007, the WSIB only accepts representatives who have applied for licensing through the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC) and whose names are included on the Lawyer and Paralegal Directory.

Employers must beware of third party consultants who claim they can represent them in WSIB matters, but are not recognized by the WSIB. All third party consultants must submit a WSIB Direction of Authorization (signed by the employer) with each claim in order to correspond with WSIB. A consultant that does not submit an authorization is not permitted to correspond with WSIB.

As there is a risk of being fraudulently represented, always confirm that your third party representative is a LICENSED PARALEGAL in order to protect your company and ensure you are getting the best possible service. If in doubt check the LSUC Lawyer & Paralegal Directory to verify that the representative is registered.

It is ultimately the employer’s responsibility to ensure that their third party consultant is legitimate.
